DO NOT place sharps in the garbage or recycling.  It’s against the law!

Click here to download our “Be Sharps Smart” card.  If you would like copies of these cards to display in the Community, please contact us at 613-735-7537, ext. 216.

Needles, syringes, lancets and auto-injectors, when not properly disposed of, can pose a health risk to the community, collection staff and Waste Recovery Centre employees who hand sort your recyclables.

Help keep our employees safe.  When needles are incorrectly thrown in the recycling they put our staff at risk for injury.

Contact your local pharmacy about safe sharps disposal.  Most pharmacies offer sharps containers and disposal services free of charge.  For additional drop-off locations visit http://www.healthsteward.ca/.

This material is also acceptable at our Hazardous Waste Depot or at one of our Environmental Days from residents within our partner Municipalities.  Needles must be packaged in a rigid, unbreakable container (i.e. plastic bottle), sealed and labeled needles OR a sharps container.

The City of Pembroke also offers Community Needle Drop Boxes at three locations:
