Curbside collection of Large Items occurs in the Spring and the Fall in the Town of Petawawa, City of Pembroke, and Township of Laurentian Valley.

2026 Large Item Collection Dates
(Residents of Petawawa, Pembroke, Laurentian Valley)

Spring – Week of May 25 on your regular collection day – DO NOT place items curbside earlier than Sunday, May 24

Large Item Collection is for household items like furniture, mattresses, scrap metal and electronic waste ONLY.  Smaller items may be placed in a garbage bag and put out for regular garbage collection (within bag limits).

  • Items NOT accepted:
    • Items smaller than 9” x 14” x 22” or items that can fit into a standard garbage bag.
    • Material placed out in cardboard boxes.
    • Material in garbage bags/containers/cans. Large quantities of garbage bags do not qualify as acceptable large item material.
    • Construction and Renovation material such as toilets, windows and doors.
    • Wood (i.e. lumber, plywood, etc.) and wooden pallets.
    • Tires and hazardous waste such as propane tanks, paint cans and fluorescent light bulbs.
    • Clothing and textiles.
    • Items that are not sorted properly into separated piles.
  • Size & Weight Requirements:
    • Acceptable materials must be manageable by two people
    • Maximum weight: 80 lbs
    • Maximum size: 27 cubic feet and 6 feet long.
  • Be Sure to:
    • Remove batteries and flammable liquids.
    • Keep items that are not meant for collection well separated from acceptable large item materials.
    • Remove any unacceptable items immediately.

Material types must be placed in FOUR separated piles. Items are collected separately in multiple trucks.

  • Freon Appliances – place in separate pile  – Freon does not have to be removed. Remove lids & doors from fridges/freezers.

  • Electronic Waste  – place in separate pile 
    • Computers, monitors
    • Televisions
    • Stereo
    • Telephones
  • Large Scrap Metal Items and Non-Freon – Metal Appliances – place in separate pile 
    • BBQs
    • Microwave oven
    • Stainless steel sinks
    • Bikes
    • Exercise equipment
    • Stove
    • Washer, dryer
    • Dishwasher
    • Small metal appliances (irons, kettles, toasters) should be placed in your yellow bin (remove and discard cords in garbage).
  • Large Items place in separate pile
    • Artificial Christmas Tree (remove from cardboard box)
    • Boxspring / Mattresses
    • Broken garbage cans, plastic totes, etc. MUST BE LABELED “FOR COLLECTION”
    • Carpets & Underlay
    • Furniture (desks, couches)
    • Plastic – Large, Bulky Household Plastic Items (children’s swimming pool, lawn chair, outdoor toys)
    • Pool Covers
    • Luggage & hockey bags larger than 9″ x 14″ x 22″
    • Mops, brooms, shovels & rakes (non-metal)
These items must be brought to OVWRC for disposal. (Tipping fees MAY apply).
