At their February 16, 2023 meeting, the Ottawa Valley Waste Management Board provided the Centre with direction to no longer accept landfill waste from non-partner municipalities.  Landfill waste includes garbage, asbestos and contaminated soil.

This difficult decision was made due to increasing pressures of landfill capacity as the Centre awaits further approvals from the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MOECP) to move into Phase 2 of landfilling operations at the site.  Based on the current operating license, the Centre’s landfill is expected to reach capacity by November 2024.  Once approvals are received to move into Phase 2, landfill operations are expected to continue into early 2036.

The Board is committed to reviewing this direction in six months or sooner should approval for Phase 2 be received from MOECP.

This ONLY applies to landfill waste (garbage), asbestos and contaminated soil generated OUTSIDE the Centre’s partner municipalities of Petawawa, Pembroke, Laurentian Valley and North Algona Wilberforce.

For alternate disposal options, please contact the Municipality in which the waste was generated.
