Introduction

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 all public and private sector organizations must meet the requirements of accessibility standards established by regulation including preparing and maintaining multi-year plans to remove accessibility barriers. The accessibility plan addresses the identification, prevention and removal of barriers to persons with disabilities. This is to be accomplished through policies, programs and practices.

An inspection of Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre was undertaken on Jan. 13, 2015 by the Building Inspector for the Corporation of Laurentian Valley, Claus Trost. The Inspection found that as the building was constructed when the OBC 3.8 Requirements were in place; the facility generally meets the required standards. The deficiencies (related to signage) that were identified during the inspection were corrected and can be viewed by referring to the Centre’s Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2015-2020.
